Racism around the world
During the 1920's racism was quite prominent around the world.
AMERICA-
In America there was a lot of racism directed at black African-Americans. African-Americans were not seen as equal to white Americans and rich upper-class white Americans almost always had African-American slaves doing domestic work in their houses and looking after their children. There was an organisation called the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) that directed strong racism towards black people. They had rallies and tried to recruit lots of people. The KKK believed in 'ethnic cleansing'- that is ridding America of non-white people.
GERMANY-
Germany was absolutely full of racism in the 1920s with Hitler and the Third Reich. Hitler had a goal of 'purifying' Germany 'cleansing the population of people her were not considered strong, true Germans. This included anyone not of true German blood, mainly Jews, the disabled, the homosexual, Communists, and basically anyone who Hitler didn't like or got in his way. The Nazi party, depicted as a political party but turned into a dictatorship under the rule of Hitler. The Nazi's created groups for everyone including Hitler Youth and League of German Girls so that he could control every aspect of the population's life.
AUSTRALIA-
In Australia the native Aboriginal people were treated awfully. Australia had been invaded by European settlers and they regarded Aboriginals more like wild animals than actual human beings. The European settlers sought to 'breed Aboriginals out.' They took Aboriginal children from their parents and communities and forced them into camps where they had to speak English, attend church, pray ans basically live like the white settlers. Aboriginal people in the 20s weren't recognised as citizens of Australia in the constitution
AFRICA-
Lots of parts of Africa were colonies of European countries and Europeans visited 'their' African' territories and similarly to Australia, tried to change the way the African tribes lived, completely disregarding their culture.. Lots of Africans were put into slavery and treated in less then humane ways.
